Aug 22 – NVIDIA has told suppliers to pause production of its China-targeted H20 AI chip, per The Information. It instructed Amkor (Arizona, advanced packaging) and Samsung (South Korea, HBM supply) to halt H20 production this week; neither commented. NVIDIA noted it "continuously manages supply chains for market conditions."
Reuters reported Aug 19 that NVIDIA is developing a Blackwell-based AI chip for China, the B30A, more powerful than H20. This single-chip design has ~half the raw power of the dual-chip B300 flagship. Test samples may reach Chinese clients as early as next month (specs not final).
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, during a TSMC visit in Taiwan, clarified H20 has "no backdoor—this issue never existed."
