On July 2, Grassroot Optoelectronics issued an abnormal stock fluctuation and risk warning announcement after two consecutive daily trading limits, addressing market hot topics including high-pixel image sensors and its in-house wafer fabrication plant.

Founded in Shanghai in 2003, the firm specializes in full-stack businesses of CMOS image sensors (CIS) and display driver chips, covering R&D, design, manufacturing, packaging, testing and sales.
The company confirmed its self-developed 200MP CIS is advancing smoothly, with preliminary cooperation intentions signed with partial industrial clients. No mass production or delivery orders have been secured, and no shipments have been released to date.
For self-owned production capacity, its Lingang 12-inch wafer fab mainly manufactures high-end CIS products. The enterprise will focus on its core business, advance process upgrades and new product R&D, with no plans for cross-industry expansion.
In product iteration, two 0.8μm 50MP CIS models GC50D3 and GC50602 were rolled out in March this year. Targeted at smartphone rear cameras, pan-tilt cameras and action cameras, the two chips enrich its mid-to-high pixel product portfolio and lay mass production groundwork for ultra-high pixel technology.

The firm reminded investors that the 200MP product stays in the early commercialization phase. Its mass production launch and revenue contribution face uncertainties from market demand, R&D schedules and overall industry conditions.
