Israeli startup NextSilicon is aggressively entering the chip market, aiming to challenge industry leaders. The company's computing chips are currently under evaluation at a U.S. National Laboratory, with ambitions to compete not only with Intel and AMD in the CPU space but also with NVIDIA in specific computational fields.

Having secured $300 million in funding, NextSilicon has commenced production of its flagship "Maverick-2" chip, designed for precise scientific workloads like weapons modeling. Notably, the company also revealed it is developing a new CPU based on RISC-V technology to complement its primary chip ecosystem.

The company claims its Maverick-2 chip can perform some of the same tasks as NVIDIA's hardware but does so faster and with lower power consumption, all without requiring software code rewrites. This claim is supported by a three-year evaluation at Sandia National Laboratories, where a senior scientist noted "impressive performance results" and its "potential to increase computational capability."
