On September 28, TSMC announced a leadership change at its Arizona facility, with CEO Wang Yinglang stepping down effective October 1. He will be replaced by Vice President Zhuang Ruiping, who will also assume the board seat. Wang will return to TSMC’s Taiwan headquarters to continue serving as an operations executive.

Wang’s reassignment is viewed as a strategic move, given his role in addressing early challenges at the U.S. plant. His return to Taiwan sparks industry speculation about his place in TSMC’s succession pipeline. The company’s third-generation leadership team is gradually forming, with Qin Yongpei and Mi Yujie currently serving as executive vice presidents and co-COOs.

With recent retirements creating openings at the senior level, Wang is expected to be promoted to senior vice president by year-end, positioning him among the top contenders for future leadership. Notably, the Arizona fab has yet to begin mass production, facing delays and unexpected hurdles. Zhuang will now lead efforts to advance the $65 billion project toward operational status.

ICgoodFind : This leadership update highlights both transitional milestones at TSMC’s U.S. operations and ongoing evolution in its executive succession strategy.
