MediaTek announced on September 22 that it plans to utilize TSMC’s Arizona factory for manufacturing chips targeting U.S. automotive and high-sensitivity product customers. This strategic move aims to support localized production and mitigate potential future semiconductor tariffs. If realized, MediaTek would become the first non-U.S. company to mass-produce chips at the Arizona facility.
In advanced node development, MediaTek has taped out its first flagship SoC using TSMC’s 2nm process, positioning it among the early adopters of this technology. Mass production is scheduled for late Q3 to Q4 2026, leveraging TSMC’s nanosheet transistor architecture to deliver 18% higher performance and 36% lower power consumption.
Regarding its partnership with Intel, MediaTek confirmed that collaborative projects are progressing as planned, though mature process cooperation remains limited to specific products. TSMC’s Arizona fab currently focuses on N5/N4 and started 4nm production in early 2025, with future expansions including 3nm and beyond.
