Description Bourns TBU-CA The series TBU high-speed protector Bourns transient blocking unit (TBU) electronic current limiter (ECL) is a circuit protection device triggered by overvoltage or overcurrent, designed as the best circuit protection solution, and can be used in industrial control, medical electronic equipment, automation testing systems, as well as military and aerospace applications. They are low capacitance, unidirectional and bidirectional high-speed resettable devices that can protect against faults caused by short circuits, AC power intersections, inductance, and lightning surges within rated limits. Special features include a wide range of trigger currents and ultra fast overcurrent protection within a voltage range, as well as reduced external dimensions to save board space. This TBU can be used for protection on Ethernet, RS-485, HART, and other ports that may experience dangerous surges and power crossover events. It can also be used in telecommunications applications, providing a barrier against surges while allowing high-frequency signals (such as VDSL2) to pass through without damaging the circuit. For sensitive electronic applications, this TBU does not require large shunt protection devices and can prevent damaging currents from reaching the protected circuit in less than 1 millisecond. This TBU can significantly reduce the allowable energy and provide overshoot protection, thereby reducing stress on the printed circuit board to improve reliability and extend product life. Bourns TBU protection technology limits the energy allowed to enter sensitive electrons without loading capacitors onto high data rate lines. This allows designers to place high-performance protection even in the highest bandwidth applications.
