OmniVision Group released the industry's first 2.2μm, 5-megapixel, global shutter high dynamic range CMOS image sensor, the OG05D. Designed for industrial machine vision, it suits barcode scanners, factory automation, compact AI cameras, and humanoid robots, especially robot training data collection devices.

As industrial automation and robotics advance, vision systems must handle fast-moving targets and high-contrast scenes within tight space and power budgets. The OG05D combines global shutter, HDR imaging, near-infrared response, and low power to meet speed, image quality, and system integration needs.

The OG05D uses a 2.2μm, 5MP backside-illuminated global shutter architecture, delivering up to 146fps in linear mode, a 143% improvement over the previous generation. Global shutter captures moving scenes synchronously, suiting high-speed inspection, barcode scanning, and robot vision. With DCG on-chip synthesis, it achieves over 70dB single-exposure HDR at 60fps with no motion artifacts; three-exposure HDR on-chip synthesis at 60fps enables higher dynamic range. With RGB-IR on-chip processing, NIR quantum efficiency, and dual conversion gain low noise, the OG05D improves target detection and navigation in factories, warehouses, and outdoors with changing light.

On NIR imaging, the OG05D achieves over 55% quantum efficiency at 850nm and a 35%+ improvement at 940nm, enabling precise imaging under NIR illumination while cutting power and extending battery life. The sensor uses a 1/2.5-inch optical format in a 6.6mm×5.3mm package, supports RGB, Mono, and RGB-IR modes, and includes an RGB-IR on-chip pixel restoration algorithm. OmniVision also launched products based on 2.2μm pixel technology covering AI wearables, industrial machine vision, and embodied intelligence.

Kelly Yan, senior product marketing manager at OmniVision, said demand for image sensors in emerging applications is growing, and the OG05D combines compact size, high-speed imaging, strong HDR, and industry-leading low power to help customers build smaller, more powerful, more energy-efficient industrial vision systems.

ICgoodFind Summary: The OG05D integrates global shutter, single-exposure HDR, and NIR enhancement into 2.2μm pixels, targeting the conflict between high-speed motion and complex lighting in industrial vision while maintaining frame rate and image quality. With robot training data collection and compact AI cameras sensitive to size and power, the sensor's value is packing high performance into a small package.
