Microchip has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Hailo, a developer of edge AI accelerators, vision processors, and robotics-oriented AI chips – along with a full AI software development stack. The transaction is expected to close by the end of Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition will expand Microchip's smart edge system portfolio across robotics, industrial automation, drones, smart cameras, and embedded AI endpoints – delivering higher compute, lower power solutions for localized LLMs and multimodal AI at the edge.

Hailo brings mature product lines including the Hailo-8, Hailo-10, and Hailo-15 chips, covering both high-performance edge servers and ultra-low-power vision sensors. The deal also adds over 100 customers and 10,000+ developers from Hailo's ecosystem – including Raspberry Pi community support.

Microchip SVP Mark Reiten noted that Hailo's AI compute, vision processing, and software stack are highly complementary to Microchip's existing MCUs, FPGAs, connectivity, security, and power/analog products. The integration enables balanced solutions across speed, power, reliability, and cost.

Hailo CEO Orr Danon added that joining Microchip allows its edge AI technology to reach a broader global customer base through Microchip's distribution channels and diverse semiconductor portfolio.

This is Microchip's second edge AI move, following its earlier acquisition of Neuronix AI Labs. With Hailo, it now offers a complete edge AI accelerator + vision SoC + software toolkit lineup.

From ICgoodFind: Microchip just turned its embedded portfolio into an edge AI powerhouse. With Hailo's accelerators and vision chips onboard, the line between MCU and AI processor is now blurred – and industrial/robotics AI is the immediate target.
