On July 22, Mitsubishi Electric and Sony Semiconductor Solutions signed a final agreement to establish a joint venture, Advanced Vision Solutions, focused on AI-driven visual sensor solutions for manufacturing. The JV is set to begin operations in October 2026, pending regulatory approvals, with Mitsubishi holding 60% and Sony 40%.

The partnership combines Sony's image sensor and edge AI expertise with Mitsubishi's industrial automation control know-how. The new company will develop AI analysis systems integrated directly into image sensors to capture subtle production-site changes, reducing control response latency and enabling autonomous, low-intervention manufacturing.
From ICgoodFind: Sensors + control = the industrial AI stack. This JV plugs the missing piece between seeing and acting on the factory floor – and that’s exactly where automation ROI gets real.
