Qualcomm is in discussions to acquire AI chip startup Tenstorrent for an estimated $8 billion to $10 billion, according to The Information . The deal would represent a significant premium over Tenstorrent's previous valuation of $2.6 billion from its Series D round in late 2024 .

Led by legendary chip architect Jim Keller – who previously designed processors at Apple and Tesla – Tenstorrent develops AI accelerators for training and inference . The acquisition would strengthen Qualcomm's data center AI chip capabilities as it diversifies beyond its core smartphone and PC processor business .

The talks are ongoing and could still fall through, with potential performance-based milestone payments under consideration . A combination of cash and stock may be used to finance the transaction.

ICgoodFind: Qualcomm's potential Tenstorrent buy signals a major push into AI silicon, adding a top-tier team and architecture to compete in data center inference.
