Leading CMOS image sensor supplier SmartSens has launched the SCC85HAI, a 15-megapixel 5K high-definition image sensor specifically designed for intelligent security applications. Built on SmartSens’ advanced SmartClarity®-3 technology, the sensor integrates key features including Lightbox IR®SmartAOV®2.1, and InSensor HDR™. It delivers high sensitivity, low noise, and a wide dynamic range, along with support for Always-on Video (AOV) functionality—making it well-suited for outdoor, wide-area, and long-distance surveillance scenarios requiring enhanced clarity and field of view.

With its 5120H × 3072V 5K resolution, the SCC85HAI can flexibly output both 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios to accommodate varied display requirements across different monitoring setups. In expansive outdoor scenes—such as border areas or forests—traditional 4K sensors often struggle with blurry distant details. The SCC85HAI’s higher resolution significantly improves image sharpness, allowing detailed capture of distant scenes when paired with telephoto lenses.

For low-light performance, a critical metric in security imaging, the sensor leverages SFCPixel® patented technology and Lightbox IR® near-infrared enhancement. It achieves a peak quantum efficiency (QE) of 81% at 520nm for brighter imaging in weak visible light, and ~57% higher QE at 850nm and ~87% higher at 940nm compared to industry counterparts—enabling clear near-IR imaging at night while reducing the need for IR illumination and lowering power consumption. Its read noise (RN) is as low as 0.63e-, approximately 34% lower than competing products, ensuring clean, detailed nighttime footage.

The SCC85HAI also incorporates InSensor HDR™ on-chip single-frame multi-gain fusion technology, delivering a dynamic range of 75dB with minimal motion artifacts. In Staggered HDR mode, it can reach up to 105dB, preserving detail in high-contrast or backlit scenes. For power efficiency and continuous monitoring, the SmartAOV®2.1 technology supports Always-on Video: when an event is detected, it switches to 30fps continuous recording; otherwise, it operates at 1fps for low-power standby, significantly extending battery life in wireless or solar-powered surveillance systems.

The SCC85HAI is now available for sampling, with mass production expected in Q2 2026.

ICgoodFind Perspective: The SCC85HAI meets growing demand for 5K high-resolution imaging in security applications, offering enhanced performance for next-generation surveillance solutions. We are committed to connecting the industry with leading-edge imaging technologies.
