Texas Instruments has announced a significant expansion of its manufacturing footprint with the launch of its new SM1 semiconductor fabrication plant in Sherman, Texas. The facility, built in just three and a half years from groundbreaking to production, is now operational and capable of producing millions of chips per day.

The chips manufactured at this new fab will serve a vast range of applications, from smartphones and home appliances to automotive systems, medical devices, industrial robotics, and data centers. The SM1 facility is just the beginning of a much larger vision for the site. Texas Instruments plans to develop a connected campus with up to four total 300mm wafer fabs at the Sherman location, which will be built and equipped in phases based on market demand.

This new plant is a core component of Texas Instruments' broad, long-term manufacturing expansion strategy. The company's plan involves a cumulative investment of over $60 billion across seven semiconductor manufacturing sites in Texas and Utah. This investment represents the largest single private-sector investment in basic semiconductor manufacturing in U.S. history. The Sherman campus alone is expected to create approximately 3,000 direct jobs and support thousands more in related industries.
