Intel China has introduced a groundbreaking "menu-style" custom chip service that allows Chinese clients to select and combine different computing elements—including CPU, GPU, NPU, and I/O units—using chiplet technology. The announcement was made by Intel China Chairman Wang Zhicong at the 2025 Intel Technology Innovation and Ecosystem Summit.

This strategic shift represents a fundamental transformation in Intel's technical approach:

  • Transition from designing large, complex monolithic chips to a chiplet-based architecture

  • Current and upcoming products including Meteor Lake, Panther Lake, and Clearwater Forest all utilize this modular design

  • Each functional IP becomes an independent module that clients can mix and match

Wang described the new model as offering both standard "set menu" products for general markets and custom "à la carte" solutions for specialized needs. This flexibility helps Chinese clients across AI, cloud computing, industrial internet, and smart devices optimize performance, power efficiency, and cost while reducing development expenses and accelerating time-to-market.

"Intel's business model will become more flexible and open with technological breakthroughs," Wang stated, emphasizing that customization complements rather than replaces the company's mainstream products.

The dual-track strategy—maintaining general-purpose products while expanding into high-value custom solutions—strengthens Intel's collaboration with Chinese partners amid increasing market competition.
