Netherlands Returns Control of Nexperia to Chinese Parent Company

In a significant reversal, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced the return of control over chipmaker Nexperia to its Chinese parent company Wingtech. Dutch Minister Vincent Karremans described the move as a "gesture of goodwill" and expressed commitment to continuing constructive dialogue with Chinese authorities.

The decision ends a nearly two-month control dispute that began on September 30 when the Dutch government took over Nexperia, citing national security concerns. Wingtech immediately condemned the action as "excessive intervention based on geopolitical bias."

China responded with export controls on October 4, prohibiting Nexperia and its subcontractors from exporting specific components. This significantly impacted global supply chains since over 70% of Nexperia's packaging and testing capacity is located in China. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce repeatedly criticized the Netherlands for "misusing national security concepts" and violating contractual spirit.

The situation began shifting in early November when China started granting exemptions for qualified exports, allowing Nexperia China to resume shipments. On November 6, Karremans welcomed China's position, expressing confidence that "chips made in China would soon reach European customers."

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce then demanded "substantive actions rather than just verbal statements," leading to the eventual return of control.
