Intel has filed a lawsuit in Washington federal court against former software engineer Jinfeng Luo, accusing him of stealing 18,000 confidential company documents before his departure.
According to the complaint, Luo had been employed at Intel's Seattle office since 2014. On July 7, Intel informed him of his impending termination, effective July 31. On July 23, Luo attempted to transfer files from his company laptop to an external hard drive but was blocked by internal security systems. Five days later, he succeeded in downloading the files using another storage device, triggering an internal investigation.
Intel attempted to contact Luo multiple times over the following months but received no response. The company is now seeking at least $250,000 in damages, legal fees, and a court injunction to prevent further disclosure of confidential information.

Intel did not specify the exact reason for Luo's dismissal, though the company conducted global layoffs of over 15,000 employees last summer as part of cost-cutting and operational efficiency measures.
