AMD Confirms: Ryzen 7000 Design Updated, Not Downg

Aug 20 - Tech media WccfTech reported Aug 19 that AMD adjusted its Ryzen 7000 series processors by removing SMD components (capacitors) from the upper part of the substrate, leading some users to suspect counterfeits. AMD officially confirmed this is a normal design update with no impact on CPU performance or cooling.

Users note the new design inverts the L3 cache (similar to 98X3D), potentially reducing heat buildup. Beyond the 7800X3D, models like Ryzen 7 7700, 7600X, and 7500F also show missing upper capacitors.

The adjustment began months ago (verified by multiple users). New designs reach 5.0GHz core frequency more easily, with some reporting reduced local heat accumulation. User feedback confirms updated 7800X3D and 7700 models perform normally in real-world use—stable operation without downclocking or overheating issues from fewer components.

ICgoodFind: AMD’s processor redesign is a normal update; users need not worry about performance or cooling.
