Amazon in Talks to Acquire Decart for $7B

Amazon is in talks to acquire AI startup Decart in a deal valuing it at about $7 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal on October 12. Sources say the deal could close soon if negotiations do not break down and no rival bidder emerges.

San Francisco-based Decart was founded in 2023 by three Israeli engineers: brothers Dean Leitersdorf and Orian Leitersdorf, and Moshe Shalev. Its core capability lets developers switch software more easily across different AI chips. As the compute race intensifies, this cross-chip compatibility is becoming a key need for cloud providers and AI developers.

Decart has raised over $400 million** in venture funding from **Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Radical Ventures**. In **May**, the company was valued at nearly **$4 billion. A $7 billion deal would nearly double that valuation in five months.

Amazon's interest is not sudden. AWS met Decart in 2025, was impressed by its founders, and gave the company early access to Trainium3, Amazon's in-house AI chip. Amazon built Trainium3 to create an alternative to Nvidia's GPU dominance. If Decart's chip-switching software is integrated into AWS AI infrastructure, it would lower the barrier for developers migrating from Nvidia to Trainium, directly supporting Amazon's chip strategy.

Decart is also developing world models called Lucy and Oasis. World models can generate and simulate real-world 3D environments, with clear potential in autonomous driving simulation, robotics training, and game development.

Amazon's recent large deals include MGM for $6.5 billion** in 2022 and, earlier this year, **Globalstar** for about **$11 billion. If the Decart deal lands, it would be Amazon's largest AI infrastructure acquisition.

ICgoodFind Summary: Amazon is buying Decart not for its models but for its migration tooling. When in-house chip performance gaps must be closed by software ecosystems, the ability to let developers "switch chips painlessly" is itself worth $7 billion.
