Renesas Launches Industry's First 6th-Gen DDR5 RCD Chip

Renesas Electronics has unveiled the industry's first sixth-generation DDR5 Registering Clock Driver, achieving a breakthrough data rate of 9600MT/s to meet the soaring bandwidth demands of AI servers and generative AI applications.

The new chip delivers a 10% bandwidth increase over the previous 8800MT/s generation while maintaining backward compatibility for seamless upgrades. Key innovations include:

  • Enhanced signal integrity and power efficiency for AI, HPC, and large language model workloads

  • Expanded Decision Feedback Equalization with 8 Taps and 1.5mV precision voltage adjustment

  • Decision Engine Signal Telemetry & Margin (DESTM) for real-time signal monitoring and margin visualization

Renesas collaborated closely with CPU and memory partners to integrate the solution into DDR5 RDIMMs across multiple SoC platforms. The company confirmed that Samsung has adopted the technology to address growing memory-intensive computing requirements.
