Nexperia Supply Crisis Triggers Double-Digit Price Surge for MOSFETs and Diodes

Global power semiconductor supply is facing severe disruption following sanctions against Nexperia. With export restrictions in mainland China and halted shipments from Nexperia's Dongguan plant, the industry confirms a new wave of price hikes for diodes and MOSFETs is imminent, with expected increases in the double-digit percentage range.

Since mid-October, inventory for MOSFETs and diodes has tightened significantly, with lead times for automotive-grade components extending to over 12 weeks. A Shenzhen distributor noted that following the plant shutdowns, lead times have drastically lengthened, prices for some part numbers have already risen, and downstream clients are advancing procurement plans over fears of continued price increases.

Preliminary market estimates suggest Q4 prices for MOSFETs and diodes are likely to rise by 5% to 15%, with high-end automotive and industrial components potentially seeing increases exceeding 20%. Some agents worry that if this trend continues, the market could revisit the severe component shortages seen during the pandemic.

Industry analysis indicates that Nexperia's halt has created a supply vacuum, coinciding with strong demand growth from the automotive sector, pushing the power component market into a new price cycle. Specifically, the electric vehicle sector's demand for high-voltage, high-efficiency power chips is driving a sharp increase in requirements for rectification and protection components. Meanwhile, server applications, due to high-power architecture needs, require large quantities of power switching components and protection modules, with MOSFET counts per unit far exceeding standard servers.

European and American automotive manufacturers and related firms are urgently seeking alternative suppliers, with companies from Taiwan emerging as significant beneficiaries in this trend.
