Intel China Leadership Shift: Wang Rui Retires, Wang Zhicong Succeeds

On September 16th, Intel announced a key leadership change: Dr. Wang Rui, Intel China Chairman, will retire this month. With over 30 years at Intel, her retirement closes a distinguished career and starts a new chapter for Intel China’s leadership.

The transition was planned: In February 2024, Mr. Wang Zhicong was named Intel China Vice Chairman, and the two have since collaborated closely to ensure a smooth handover.

Dr. Wang’s background stands out: She holds a bachelor’s in Electronic Engineering from South China University of Technology, plus master’s degrees in Engineering and Philosophy, and a PhD in Electronic Engineering from Columbia University. Joining Intel in 1994, she notably served as Intel’s Global Account Manager for Huawei—deepening their partnership, a key win for Intel’s China business. She also held senior roles like TEG General Manager and PEG Vice President, leading international teams (UK, India, Israel, etc.) and showcasing strong cross-cultural management.

In September 2021, Dr. Wang became Intel China’s first female Chairman. Intel recognized her for driving tech innovation and industry collaboration; as Chairman, she redefined Intel China’s strategy, upgraded its structure, and boosted alignment with global operations, Chinese market support, and ecosystem partnerships.

Incoming leader Mr. Wang Zhicong brings nearly 30 years at Intel, with deep tech, sales, and management expertise. A recognized industry veteran, he understands the local market, has strong customer ties, and has led teams to grow business and expand ecosystem cooperation.
