Global Memory Price Hike Ahead? Micron Plant Hit by Incident

Aug 28, 3:25 PM – A suspected semiconductor process gas leak hit Micron’s Houli Plant (Taichung). The plant evacuated staff via emergency alerts; fire teams sent 7 trucks and 18 personnel. 4 people (dizziness/vomiting from inhalation) were ambulance-transported to hospital, with 8 more seeking voluntary medical observation.

Taichung’s environmental bureau is testing samples; gas composition and leak cause are pending investigation.

Micron said the leak stemmed from abnormal automatic extraction in the chemical storage area—gas/pressure buildup ruptured a pipeline, releasing white fumes. The 4 affected staff (cleaning/security) were treated; the situation is controlled, and emergency protocols activated.

Central Taiwan Science Park Administration noted Micron has stopped the leak, ordered a shutdown (for labor inspections), and will only allow resumption post-cause clarification/rectification—production processes remain unaffected. Violations could lead to a maximum NT$300,000 fine.

Micron, Taiwan’s top foreign investor (30 years by 2025, NT$1.1 trillion cumulative investment by 2024), employs ~12,000 locals. Micron Taiwan is a DRAM manufacturing hub focused on memory R&D/production.
